Today, the sample is from a throwback track by Charles Hamilton. Back when he had the Sonic persona, Charles was spouting out more mixtapes than Future in 2015. In 2009, Charles sampled The Isley Brothers’ Footsteps In The Dark, a song released in 1977 (The 70s rule) on their album Go For Your Guns. Footsteps In The Dark has been sampled many times within the music industry, a few examples are Ice Cube’s “It Was A Good Day”, Alicia Key’s “ A Womans’ Worth” and Thundercat’s “Them Changes”. This sample is pretty obvious and isn’t hidden within the song, but it showcases Charles sampling skills. His era of mixtapes were full of samples and he made them his own. As a fellow Starchaser I’m excited that he’s back out making new music, Stream his new EP, The Black Box, here.
P.S.: Shoutout to HotNewHipHop for putting me on to Hamilton back in ‘08.
aafleur recommendation: Listen to the sample first
I love culture and all things creative. Self-expression and self-exploration are highly regarded. As a sociology major, I fell in love with the concept of culture and its effect on creativity. In 2015, I created my website to post the products of imagination and personality.
