In honor of the Olympics taking place in Brazil, today’s Throwback Thursday is dedicated to the Brazilian artist, Jorge Ben Jor. The 2008 film, City of God, introduced me to Brazilian sound. I fell in love with the adlibs, style, and raw instruments (especially the reco-reco). Since the film took place in the 70s, the soundtrack was of that era. I didn’t research on other 70s Brazilian songs until recently where I found Jorge Ben’s Oba, Lá Vem Ela (translated:Yeah! There she comes). Of course, the beautiful song is about a beautiful woman. Jorge Ben Jor is a popular Brazilian musician who’s been active since the 60s. Oba, Lá Vem Ela appears in Jor’s 7th album “Força Bruta” released in 1970. The style of the song is completely different from the current Brazilian baile funk but it’s feel good music. View the lyrics below. enjoy.
I love culture and all things creative. Self-expression and self-exploration are highly regarded. As a sociology major, I fell in love with the concept of culture and its effect on creativity. In 2015, I created my website to post the products of imagination and personality.
