Barry Jenkins, director of Moonlight, and DJ Candlestick chopped and screwed Grizzly Bear’s 2009 and 2017 albums, Veckatimest and Painted Ruins. The album Purple Veckatimest/Painted ruins (CHOPNOTSLOP) features 23 remixed tracks combining different worlds.

The chopped and screwed sound, made popular by DJ Screw, originated in Houston, Texas 30 years ago. With this style, portions of songs are skipped/chopped while the tempo is screwed/slowed down.

Barry Jenkins seems like a die-hard Grizzly Bear fan. Grizzly Bear’s Ed Droste appreciated the love. Listen below:
